The biggest milestones in our company history
Today we can proudly say that PORR is one of Austria's leading construction companies. But there is a story behind every company. Find out more about what has made us what we are today.
1869
Today's PORR Group started its business activities as "General Austrian Building Society" on 16 March 1869.
1870
One of the first orders was for the extension of the horse-drawn railway from Linz to Budweis.
1873
The general austrian building society builds seven pavilions and numerous hotels for the World Exhibition and shapes the cityscape of Vienna.
1908
Foundation of the new company: A. Porr Concrete-Construction-Company with the civil engineer Arthur Porr
1927
The General Building Society merged with A. Porr Betonbau-Unternehmung: "Allgemeine Baugesellschaft - A. Porr Aktiengesellschaft" was founded.
1938 bis 1945 (Kopie 1)
1939: The company specialises in the execution of civil engineering structures.
1938 until 1945
IG-Farbindustrie AG was active in Auschwitz from 1941. It commissioned around 170 subcontractors. One of these was Allgemeine Baugesellschaft.
1945
After the Second World War, we were heavily involved in the reconstruction of Austria. This included, for example, the reconstruction of the Vienna State Opera.
1953
The Vienna Ringturm, built by PORR, was for a time the second tallest building in Vienna with its impressive 21 storeys.
1960
At Bergisel, a bridge for the Brenner motorway was built at an enormous height. To this day, many of our structures represent sections of this important north-south axis.
1970
From the 1970s onwards, PORR positions itself as an international group with the establishment of branch offices outside Austria.
2011
The Group is restructured and PORR Bau GmbH is founded. The focus is placed on the home markets.
2012 until 2014
Successful market entry in Qatar. The company name is changed to PORR AG. And PORR becomes a pure construction company.
Current
PORR is also expanding its field of activity in Scandinavia and Great Britain, often in cooperation with local partner companies.
Current
Today, we are one of the leading providers in Europe and are recognised as a pioneer in "future topics" such as BIM and LEAN.
